Genshin Impact
This page is about the computer game Genshin Impact (aka "Genshin" for short). When it hit the market in 2020 it made a huge splash, such that even I may have heard about it. I was attracted to the game around May 2023, when I saw it being played as an experiment by Shadybunny, one of my favourite Hearthstone streamers. What I found immediately attractive was the open world exploration (which reminded me of my World of Warcraft days), the colorful impressive combat animations and the twist of Anime-style graphics. Important bonus points for me were that the game was available on iPad (which is the device which I nowadays use most of the time) and that the basic game is free to play.
Although I was wary of the so-called Gacha nature of the game, I decided to give a try. As of writing this, it is now 3.5 months later, I am approaching the late-to-end game, and I am still very much into the game. The Gacha system turned out to be quite manageable, provided you have patience and can control the urge to spend money. I decided relatively early on to pay: Comparable to World of Warcraft where you have to pay a monthly subscription to be even able to play, I am now regularly buying two of the recurring options (Battle Pass and the so-called "Blessing of the Welkin Moon"). I find the prices relatively fair and, at least for me, affordable, so I don't mind paying for the big entertainment I get in return.
I use this and other pages on this wiki to organize my knowledge about the game.

Original Resin is a resource that replenishes automatically over time, the other types of resin are obtained by player actions. Original Resin and Condensed Resin are required to claim certain rewards in the game, while Fragile Resin and Transient Resin are used to replenish Original Resin.
- Sands
- Short for "Sands of Eon", one of the 5 artifact types. Aka: clock, hourglass, timepiece, watch.
- Shrine of Depths
- These are small buildings scattered around the landscape which contain a Luxurious Chest. A key is required to unlock a Shrine of Depths so that the chest can be opened. There are 10 shrines per region (e.g. Mondstadt, Liyue, etc.), so 10 keys are required. Keys are earned by playing the game.
- Skill
- Usually used for short for Elemental Skill. Can also be used as an umbrella term for the 3 skills that each character has: Normal Attack, Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst.
- Wish, Wishing
- In Genshin Impact it is said that "you wish on a banner". This can be translated into "you open a loot box". There are several banners, most of them with rotating contents. The current content of a banner defines the potential rewards that you can get when you decide to wish on it. Making a wish costs either an amount of Primogems or one Fate.

Adventure Rank
Adventure Rank is one of the earliest concepts that a new player encounters in Genshin Impact. I wrote this section when I was new to get a better understanding.
- Adventure Rank is an Account attribute, i.e. not associated with characters.
- Adventure EXP are needed to raise the Adventure Rank. For details on what gives Adventure EXP see the Genshin Impact wiki.
- Increasing the Adventure Rank is the basis of all progression in the game
- World Level, increasing the general difficulty of the game
- Character / Weapon level cap (ascension phases): 20 (1), 40 (15), 50 (25), 60 (30), 70(35), 80 (40), 90 (50).

- Unlock types of major quests: Archon, Event, Story, Hangout.
- Unlock parts of the game system: Daily Commissions (12), Expeditions (14), Co-Op Mode (16), Spiral Abyss (20), Reputation (25)
- Maximum = 60
- Adventure Ranks are grouped into 5 tiers. To progress from one tier to the next the player needs to complete an Ascension quest.
- Ascension quests are World quests.
- Ascension quests are obtained automatically upon reaching the maximum Adventure Rank of a given tier.
Tier AR World Level ------------------------------- 1 1 - 25 0 - 1 2 26 - 35 2 - 3 3 36 - 45 4 - 5 4 46 - 50 6 5 51 - 60 7 - 8

Other stuff
Resin
References:
There are several different kinds of Resin. Original Resin is the main Resin type.
- Original Resin is required to claim rewards from successfully completed Boss, Domain or Ley Line Outcrop challenges. The cost varies with the type of challenge.
- Original Resin is also used to craft Condensed Resin (see below) and Mystic Enhancement Ore.
- Original Resin automatically replenishes over time, at a rate of 1 per 8 minutes, or 7.5 per hour, or 180 per day.
- You can have a maximum of 160 Original Resin. Once this limit is reached the automatic replenishment stops.
- A full replenish requires 1280 minutes, or 20.13 hours.
Other kinds of Resin:
- Condensed Resin
- Is crafted at an Alchemy bench. Costs 40 Original Resin and 1 Crystal Core (obtained by gathering Crystalflies) to craft. You can hold a maximum of 5 Condensed Resin. Can be used instead of Original Resin to claim the rewards from a successfully completed Domain (only talent material, weapon material and artifact domains, but no Boss domains) or a successfully completed Ley Line Outcrop.
- Condensed Resin acts as a kind of "battery" that can be "loaded" with up to 200 Original Resin. The "battery" can then be "drained" at your convenience.
- A common usage is to pour your Original Resin into Condensed Resin if you don't have to time to play right now, then when you have time again you can use the Original Resin which you have saved up in the form of Condensed Resin.
- The other common usage is to save time: You complete a Domain or Ley Line Outcrop once but claim its rewards twice - the rewards only cost 20 Original Resin, but 1 Condensed Resin is worth 40 Original Resin, i.e. twice as much. By doing so you save time because you don't have to do the Domain or Ley Line Outcrop two times.
- Yet another usage is to save up Original Resin so that you have more than the usual amount of Original Resin available to farm a talent or weapon material domain on a specific weekday. This can be interesting because these domains give out 3 different rewards, depending on the day of the week you complete them.
- Fragile Resin
- Using 1 Fragile Resin restores 60 Original Resin. A limited quantity of Fragile Resin is obtainable through activities in the game. The main source of new Fragile Resin is the Battle Pass (5 from the free track, 5 from the paid track, another 5 for the second payment). There is no limit to how many Fragile Resin you can have.
- Transient Resin
- Using 1 Transient Resin restores 60 Original Resin. 1 Transient Resin per week can be bought from the Serenitea Pot for 1200 Realm Currency. Transient Resin must be used within a certain time after buying it - if not used it will disappear without any kind of compensation. The expiration time is calculated from the Monday after the Transient Resin item is obtained, and it will disappear seven days from then.
