This page contains general information about character development - these are notes I took when I was quite new to the game, nowaydays the information is not so useful anymore, so I placed it at the bottom of the page.

In addition, this page contains lists of characters that I have and that I want, and sections with build details for each character that I have built.

Character Have List

Ratings are from game8.co. Candidates for building:

Character Want List

References:

4★

  • Yun Jin: Because I liked her role in the Shenhe storyline.
  • Kuki Shinobu C2 (increases Skill duration by 3 seconds)
  • Xingqiu C6 (regenerates 3 energy)

5★

  • Arataki Itto (Geo): His exuberant and childish nature is just adorable.
  • Shenhe (Cryo): Rating S for support, C for exploration. Mostly because I like her character, but also because she supports Ayaka.
  • Xianyun (Anemo): Because she creates a new style of combat.
  • Navia (Geo): Not quite sure yet - her design is a bit baroque, but the sunglasses... look cool. And apparently she is a really strong Geo unit.
  • Keqing (Electro): I don't have a strong feeling about her characterization, but her attack style is simply formidable.

Characters that I actively dislike:

  • Cyno: Appears to have a rather limited IQ. Unlike Arataki Itto, who suffers a bit from a similar problem, Cyno just seems dull, though.
  • Baizhu: Green long hair, glasses and a talking snake - seriously?
  • Tighnari: These ears are ... annoying?
  • Kokomi: Writing handbooks and regulations that cover all aspects to the n'th degree really is not a likeable trait.
  • Yoimiya: Too blatantly girly-sexy, also she talks too much and the English voice acting is somehow annoying to me.
  • Freminet: I encountered the character in the event quest of the second half of the 4.2 patch. The voice-acting, which is probably deliberate, makes the character unlikeable for me.

5* Character building notes

Arlecchino

References:

Ascension Stat = CRIT DMG

Build: Main DPS

  • Level 80 is sufficient because Arlecchino's attack scales off ATK.
  • Arlecchino does not need a lot of Energy Recharge because her main combat talent is her Elemental Skill. She needs her burst only occasionally to heal up in an emergency.
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Fragment of Harmonic Whimsy. Best in slot because it is based on Bond of Life.
    • 2nd best: 4x Gladiator's Finale.
    • Interesting: 4x Retracing Bolide. Requires a shield and that shield must always be up.
    • Stats
      • Sands = ATK% or EM (only in Vaporize)
      • Goblet = Pyro DMG Bonus
      • Circlet = CR or CD
        • I prefer CR even when using a CR weapon, because otherwise the CR/CD ratio becomes too unbalanced. A couple of CD substat rolls to get a good ratio seems not impossible to achieve.
        • If a CD piece is selected, then to achieve a good ratio you need almost all substat rolls to go into CR. This may be possible after a lot of refinement, but at the beginning it is very unlikely.
    • Substats
      • CR / CD
      • ATK%
      • EM (only in Vaporize, and then about the same as ATK%)
  • Weapon
    • Various 5* weapons
    • Deathmatch (4* from Battle Pass)
    • Ballad of the Fjords (4* from Battle Pass, an upgrade to Deathmath in Vaporize teams that contain a 3rd element)
    • White Tassel (3*)
  • Talents
    • Normal Attack
    • Elemental Skill
    • Elemental Burst

How to play

  • In general
    • First trigger the Elemental Skill to mark enemies, then perform a charged attack to consume the marks applied by the skill and gain Bond of Life.
    • For each mark consumed she gains 65% Bond of Life. This means the more enemies, the better.
    • There is cap of 145% Bond of Life that can be gained within 35 seconds after using her skill.
    • If she has more than 30% Bond of Life, her normal, charged and plunging attacks are converted to Pyro DMG and extra damage is added consisting of Bond of Life * ATK.
    • Each attack decreases Bond of Life by 7.5%, so over time her attacks become weaker, until Bond of Life is replenished.
    • But each attack also decreases the cooldown of her Elemental Skill, so the weaker her attacks become the sooner she can trigger her Elemental Skill again and start the cycle anew.
  • Ascension 1 passive effects
    • If an opponent to which she applied a mark is defeated by anyone, she gains 130% Bond of Life.
    • The regular mark applied by her Elemental Skill is upgraded after 5 seconds. When an upgraded mark is consumed by a charged attack it grants 130% Bond of Life.
  • Overall this incentivizes the following sequence:
    • Trigger Elemental Skill.
    • Take 5 seconds to switch to other team mates to apply their Elemental Skills/Bursts.
    • Switch batck to Arlecchino and perform a charged attack.
    • Continue to perform normal and or charged attacks until her Elemental Skill is off cooldown and the rotation can begin again.
  • Elemental Burst
    • Is her only source of healing during combat.
    • First consumes all marks that currently exist and transforms them into Bond of Life (as described above)
    • Then consumes all Bond of Life she has. The amount of healing is based on ATK + the amount of Bond of Life consumed.
    • Also resets the cooldown of her Elemental Skill.
    • Overall, using her burst means that a new rotation has to begin afterwards.

Diluc

References:

Ascension Stat = CRIT Rate

Build: Main DPS

  • Because Diluc is on the field a lot of the time (i.e. can gather up many particles) and because of his low burst cost (40), his Energy Recharge requirements are low.
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Crimson Witch of the Flame
    • 2nd: 2x Crimson Witch of the Flame, 2x Gladiator’s Finale
    • 3rd: 2x Shimenawa, 2x Gladiator’s Finale
    • 4th: 4x Berserker
    • Stats
      • Sands: ATK% or EM (ATK% is easier to find)
      • Goblet: Pyro DMG Bonus
      • Circlet: CRIT rate or CRIT DMG
    • Substats
      • CR / CD
      • EM or ATK%
  • Weapon
    • Serpent Spine
    • Prototype Archaic
  • Talents
    • Elemental Skill
    • Normal Attack
    • Elemental Burst
    • Try to keep them equally leveled
  • Strengths
    • Interrupt enemies with Elemental Skill
    • Claymore => Destroy shields

Furina

References:

Ascension Stat = CRIT Rate

Build: Off-field DPS + Support

  • Level to 90 because Furina's Elemental Skill scales off Max HP.
  • ER requirements
    • I am using a Favonius Sword on Furina. Each Favonius weapon proc lowers ER requirements by 20-30%.
      • There can only be one proc per 12 seconds. The burst duration is 18 seconds. This means that 1.5 procs are possible per burst.
      • My sword is R1 currently, i.e. there is a 60% change of proc on a CRIT hit. My current CRIT rate on Furina is about 60%. This means there is a 36% chance of a proc per attack.
      • According to the attack rates on the Fandom wiki page, the 3 Ousia guests should attack approximately 12 times within one Favonius proc window (12 seconds), and approximately 6 times within half a window (6 seconds).
      • For 12 hits the chance to have one proc is about 98%. For 6 hits the chance is about 88%.
      • Even conservatively calculated, it should be safe to say that 1 proc per burst is guaranteed. On average it is probably more, so let's calculate with 30% lowered ER requirements.
    • Solo Hydro: 200 - 30 = 170%
    • Double Hydro with 1 / 2 skills per Furina burst duration: 150%-180% / 120% - 140% (down by 30% from 180%-210% / 150% - 170%)
  • Artifacts
    • 4x Golden Troupe
    • Stats
      • Sands = HP% or ER%
      • Goblet = HP% > Hydro DMG Bonus
      • Circlet = CR or CD
    • Substats
      • ER (until requirements)
      • CR / CD
      • HP%
      • Flat HP
  • Weapon
    • Many 5* weapons
    • Fleuve Cendre Ferryman (F2P 4* weapon, buy from Fontaine Fishing Association)
    • Favonius Sword (bad for Furina's personal damage)
    • Any CR sword
  • Talents
    • Elemental Skill = Elemental Burst
    • Normal Attack (damage is insignificant)

How to play

  • Long Elemental Skill and Burst durations (30 and 18 seconds, respectively) allow to switch away from her for prolongued time.
  • Perform a Charged Attack to switch between Ousia and Pneuma.
  • The effect of the Elemental Skill is different depending on whether Ousia or Pneuma is in effect. In both cases the skill summons some guests.
    • Ousia (the default): Summons 3 guests that follow the active character around. The guests deal damage. The guests drain HP from party members with HP > 50%.
    • Pneuma: Summons 1 guest that stays where it was summoned. The guest heals the active character only, in a wide radius.
  • Elemental Burst
    • Provides both a damage buff and an incoming-healing buff to the whole team (including Furina herself).
    • The buff starts at 0% when the burst is used - if a previous burst is still ongoing, re-using the burst will reset the buff.
    • The buff inreases whenever team members change their HP: Every 1% HP change (regardless of whether it's healing or damage) increases the buff.
    • At skill level 10 the damage buff is 1% per 4% HP change, and the incoming-healing buff is 1% per 10% HP change. (in game the skill describes the conversion with the help of so-called "Fanfare Points").
  • To quickly accumulate a large buff, first use the burst, then use the skill. The initial HP drain from the skill use will quickly provide an initial buff. Next could be a party-wide heal to increase the buff even further. The most effective way to further increase the buff is for party members' HP to see-saw between 50% and 100%.
  • The team requires party-wide healing to counteract the party-wide HP drain from her skill.

Hu Tao

References:

Ascension Stat = CRIT DMG

Build: Main DPS

  • Because Hu Tao's Elemental Skill bonus scales off HP, leveling her to 90 is worth it (7-8% damage increase). However, skill leveling clearly has priority.
  • Because Hu Tao's main talent is her Elemental Skill and not her Burst, she does not need a lot of Energy Recharge.
  • Artifacts
    • Best 1: 4x Shimenawa's Reminiscence. Slightly better normal/charged attack damage than Crimson Witch, but energy drain when skill is triggered reduces the amount of bursts. Without the heals from bursts, this can become a problem. With this artifact set Hu Tao likes to have a shielder (or healer) in the team.
    • Best 2: 4x Crimson Witch. Good all-round set. The baseline.
    • 3rd: 4x Gilded Dreams. A little worse than Crimson Witch, but close enough that substats will usually be the deciding factor.
    • Some 2/2 combinations => see keqingmains
    • Stats
      • Sands = EM or HP%
      • Goblet = Pyro DMG Bonus
      • Circlet = CR or CD
    • Substats
      • EM (until 100 with Crimson Witch, 150 with other sets; reduce if EM buffs are coming from other effects such as set bonus, weapon or other characters)
      • CR / CD
      • EM again (until 200-300)
      • HP%
      • ATK%
  • Weapon
    • Ballad of the Fjords (R1 competitive, R5 among best weapons overall)
    • Dragon's Bane (at R5 competitive with 5* weapons)
    • Deathmatch
    • White Tassel R5 (best F2P option)
  • Talents
    • Normal Attack
    • Elemental Skill (roughly same priority as Normal Attack)
    • Elemental Burst

How to play

  • Hu Tao's skill causes her normal and charged attacks to deal Pyro damage instead of physical damage. This effect ends when she leaves the field.
  • While the skill effect is in place, charged attacks additionally apply a DoT effect that triggers at least 2 times, if not 3.
  • Hu Tao wants to be paired with Xingqiu or Yelan or both, because the two have off-field Hydro application, and their elemental skill/burst boosts normal attacks. So when Hu Tao attacks with activated skill, she causes Vaporize to frequently occur.
    • Yelan C0 alone apparently struggles to apply Hydro frequently enough, so Vaporize may not reliably trigger.
    • Hydro Resonance (2x Hydro in the team) buffs Hu Tao's damage because it scales off HP.
  • Hu Tao wants to remain below 50% HP so that her Ascension 4 passive activates (increases Pyro DMG by 33%) and her burst can do more damage. Because her burst also heals her, bursting too frequently is not desirable. This in turn allows her to run with lower ER than many other characters.
  • To safely remain under 50% HP, Hu Tao likes to have a shielder character in the team.
  • Canceling charged attacks: For most players, uncancelled combos likely yield better damage than suboptimally-performed jump cancels.

Kamisato Ayaka

References:

Ascension Stat = CRIT Damage

Build: On-field DPS

  • ER requirements
    • 140% for team flexibility
    • 120-130% with R1 Amenoma Kageuchi
    • 110% with R5 Amenoma Kageuchi
  • In general Ayaka will have high CR from the artifact set bonus and from the team elemental resonance. With some additional CR substats from artifacts she can reach the 100% CR cap. If not, then it is still likely better to have a CD circlet.
    • Every character has a base 5% CR.
    • Blizzard Strayer gives 20% CR against Cryo-affected enemies, and another 20% CR against Frozen enemies.
    • Team elemental resonance for Double Cryo gives 15% CR against Cryo-affected and/or Frozen enemies.
  • To get the maximum CR from the artifact set bonus and from the team elemental resonance, her team should contain one other Cryo character (for elemental resonance) and a Hydro character with high Hydro application (for CR bonus against Frozen enemies) - i.e. Xingqiu or Yelan.
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Blizzard Strayer
    • 2nd best: 2x Blizzard Strayer, 2x Gladiator/Shimenawa's/Noblesse Oblige
    • Stats
      • Sands = ATK%
      • Goblet = Cryo DMG Bonus or ATK%
      • Circlet = Most likely CD, but could also be CR
    • Substats
      • ER (until requirements)
      • CR / CD
      • ATK% >= CR
  • Weapon
    • Many 5* weapons
    • Amenoma Kageuchi in general, and if possible R5
  • Talents
    • Elemental Burst (this is Ayaka's main source of damage).
    • Normal Attack and Elemental Skill. These have lesser priority than the burst, but should be leveled nonetheless.

How to play

  • TODO
  • Cryo team mates
    • The best is Shenhe, both in terms of damage buffing and providing energy. Alternatively the following 4* characters are candidates: Layla, Rosaria, Diona or Charlotte.
    • Layla: Does the most damage from among the candidates. Is also usable for mono Cryo and can be versatile for other teams because of her strong shield (2nd strongest shield after Zhongli).
    • Rosaria: Is also an offensive character.
    • Diona: Gives the most energy from among the Cryo batteries.
    • Charlotte: Is the most "comfortable" candidate because of her massive healing capability, but is neither the best in providing energy or dealing damage.
    • I picked Charlotte because I gave Amenoma Kageuchi to Ayaka, i.e. Ayaka does not need the best Cryo battery.

Kazuha

References:

Ascension Stat = Elemental Mastery

Sucrose vs. Kazuha

  • Sucrose is enough, Kazuha is superior

Venti vs.Kazuha

  • Kazuha has stronger suction, Venti’s suction reaches further
  • Venti refunds energy, whereas Kazuha has damage increase

Dendro

  • Use Kazuha with Aggravate
  • Don’t use Kazuha with Spread, Bloom, Hyperbloom

Build

  • Elemental Mastery is the most important stat for Kazuha, because his passive talent increases elemental damage of the entire party based on his Elemental Mastery.
  • Another important stat is Energy Recharge. He should have around 180% Energy Recharge if he is the only Anemo character, if there are others then 145% should do.
  • The artifact set of choice quite clearly is Viridescent Venerer.
    • Stats
      • Sands: Energy Recharge or Elemental Mastery (or ATK%)
      • Goblet: Elemental Mastery or Anemo DMG bonus
      • Circlet: Elemental Mastery or CRIT rate or CRIT DMG
    • Substats
    • ER (until requirements)
    • EM
    • CRIT Rate (if holding Favonius Sword)
    • ATK% ~ CRIT DMG
  • Weapon
    • Either take a weapon with Energy Recharge or Elemental Mastery, depending on which of the two is lacking from the artifacts.
      • According to the guide video, achieving 180% Energy Recharge from artifacts even with only substats is supposed to be achievable, but even if only 160% are achieved this should already be enough to switch to an EM weapon.
    • Elemental Mastery
      • Best 4★ weapon by far, but only available from limited banners (i.e. not from regular banners): Xiphos’ Moonlight
      • Next best: Iron Sting or Toukabou Shigure (aka the Umbrella), both provide Elemental Mastery.
    • Energy Recharge
      • Best 4★ weapons: Favonius Sword or Sacrificial Sword
      • Cheap 3★ option: Skyrider Sword.
      • 3★ alternative: Dark Iron Sword - apparently obtainable F2P.
  • Talents
    • Prio 1: Elemental Burst
    • Prio 2: Elemental Skill
    • Prio 3: Normal Attack
  • Crit
    • In the JelloImpact video he has 25% crit rate + 55% crit damage
    • Can Kazuha even generate Crit hits? Does Swirl generate Crit hits?

Mechanics

  • Elemental Absorption
    • Both Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst have Elemental Absorption and do additional damage.
    • In the case of Elemental Burst the additional damage is applied 5 times.
    • Elemental Burst initially removes an element applied to a target, but the burst infusion ticks will then again apply the infused element - which may or may not have be the same element that was removed.
  • Rotation
    • ?
  • Poetics of Fuubutsu
    • Bonus applies to the entire party
    • Works off-field
    • Shown in the guide video: Kazuha with 1004 EM => 40% damage bonus
  • Viridiscent Venerer
    • Does not work off-field

Nahida

References:

Ascension Stat = Elemental Mastery

Build: Off-field DPS (there are also builds for on-field and Nilou Bloom teams)

  • ER requirements
    • Generally between 100-140%, depending a lot on team composition
    • 140-160% for Burgeon
  • EM requirements
    • Nahida's role revolves around her Elemental Skill damage + her A1 buff, potentially boosted by Spread
    • Ideally she wants 900-1000 EM, including EM from "external" buffs
    • But having 900+ EM is not mandatory to have a good build! Just use whatever artifacts/weapons you have.
  • Phenomenal constellations: C2 and C6
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Deepwood Memories - note that only one character in the team needs to hold this set, but Nahida is usually the best choice.
    • Situationally best: 4x Tenacity - when the team has ATK-scaling characters that deal a lot more damage than Nahida and (e.g. Fischl, Yae Miko).
    • Situationally good: 4x Gilded Dreams - only if another character holds Deepwood Memories; then Gilded Dreams boosts Nahida's personal damage. Read keqingmains for details.
    • Some others - read keqingmains
    • Stats
      • Sands = EM
      • Goblet = EM or Dendro DMG Bonus
      • Circlet = EM or CR/CD
    • Substats
      • ER (until requirements)
      • EM (until requirements)
      • Dendro DMG Bonus
      • CR/CD
      • EM
  • Weapon
    • Some 5* weapons
    • Wandering Evenstar (4* from weapon banner, EM) - very competitive with signature 5* weapon, esp. when there are team mates who benefit significantly from the weapon passive's flat ATK buff. Level 90 gives 510 ATK and 165 EM.
    • Magic Guide (3* from wishing, EM stat stick) - very solid option, and F2P to boot; at R5 has a nice 24% DMG bonus against opponents affected by Hydro or Electro. Level 90 gives 354 ATK and 187 EM.
    • Sacrificial Fragments (4* from wishing, EM stat stick) - another good option; the passive skill does not do a lot for Nahida, therefore Magic Guide might be better in some teams. Level 90 gives 454 ATK and 221 EM.
    • Hakushin Ring (4* craftable, ER) - strong option when team has Electro DPS characters, esp. those that can snapshot the DMG Bonus (such as Fischl)
    • Prototype Amber (4* craftable, HP%) - interesting not for the damage, but for the teamwide healing provided by the weapon passive; the HP% 2nd stat helps with Nahida's survivability (which should not be a big deal when she's used off-field)
  • Talents
    • Skill
    • Burst
      • Leveling the Burst is beneficial in teams with Electro team mates or when Nahida is at C1. But overall the burst impact is relatively small.
    • Normal Attack
      • Leveling the Normal Attack is worth only if she is played on-field, and even then normal attacks don't deal significant damage.

How to play

  • TODO

Neuvillette

References:

Ascension Stat = CRIT DMG

Build: Main DPS

  • Level to 90 because Neuvillette's attack scales off Max HP.
  • Neuvillette needs Energy Recharge because he must be able to trigger his Elemental Burst as often as possible because each burst lets him perform 2 charged attacks.
    • The following numbers are for Sacrificial Jade. Keqing's guide provides numbers also for R5 Prototype Amber and Neuvillette's signature weapon, but as I don't have these weapons I don't consider their ER numbers.
    • With Furina: 110-125%
    • With Fischl + a second Electro character: 120-140%
    • With Fischl as solo Electro character: 130-150%
    • Others: 140-160%
    • Each Favonius proc lowers ER requirements by 10-20%
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Marechaussee Hunter. Best in slot by far.
    • 2nd best: 4x Heart of Depth.
    • Stats
      • Sands = HP%
      • Goblet = Hydro DMG Bonus or HP% (only if no Hydro DMG Bonus is available)
      • Circlet = CR, CD or HP% (only if no CR/CD is available)
        • I prefer CR even when using a CR weapon, because otherwise the CR/CD ratio becomes too unbalanced. A couple of CD substat rolls to get a good ratio seems not impossible to achieve.
        • If a CD piece is selected, then to achieve a good ratio you need almost all substat rolls to go into CR. This may be possible after a lot of refinement, but at the beginning it is very unlikely.
    • Substats
      • CR/CD
      • HP% (about the same as CR/CD)
      • Flat HP
  • Weapon
    • Signature 5* weapon
    • Sacrificial Jade (4* from Battle Pass, generally the second best weapon)
    • Various 5* weapons
    • R5 Prototype Amber (4* craftable; this can be a very strong weapon if more ER is needed, also it benefits Furina teams due to team-wide healing)
  • Talents
    • Normal Attack. If possible, crown this! 10/1/1 performs the same as 9/10/10.
    • Elemental Skill and Burst. Both need not be leveled past 6 because they are mainly used to generate Sourcewater Droplets, which are needed to fuel Neuvillette's charged attacks.

How to play

  • In general
    • Trigger an Elemental Skill or Burst to generate a number of Sourcewater Droplets in front of Neuvillette. These droplets stay on the field until consumed.
      • 3 for the skill, but only if an opponent is hit. The skill is an AoE attack, though.
      • 6 for the burst, even if no opponents are hit. Actually the burst consists of 3 separate attacks that generate 3, 2 and then 1 droplet.
    • Perform a charged attack. Normally this takes 4 seconds to power up, but when Sourcewater Droplets are around they are consumed and the charged attack starts sooner.
      • 3 droplets = charged attack starts immediately.
      • The droplets must be in a certain AoE around Neuvillette.
    • The charged attack duration is only 3 seconds.
    • Skill and Burst together allow for 3 charged attacks.
  • Ascension 1 passive effects
    • When elemental reactions are triggered Neuvillette gains a damage bonus for 30 seconds.
    • Up to 3 such boni can be granted, for different elemental reactions, each of them granting a higher damage multiplier: 110%, 125% and 160%.
    • This means that it is benefical to have non-Hydro characters in the team. 3 different additional elements is best, but the loss of having only 2 different additional elements may be compensated by other benefits.
      • A typical example would be Furina, who provides a 25% boost to Neuvillette's Max HP and therefore an increase to his damage due to Hydro resonance. Also her damage boost that are based on characters HP decreasing/increasing may be considerable.
    • Important: Hydro Swirl and Hydro Crystallize also count as reactions, so having Anemo and Geo characters in the team is viable (e.g. Kazuha and Zhongli).

Raiden Shogun

References:

Ascension Stat = Energy Recharge

Build: Main DPS / Hyper Carry (i.e. not off-field Hyperbloom trigger)

  • Damage scales better off the ATK% stat than off the ER stat, unless Raiden has her signature weapon (Engulfing Lightning) equipped, in which case the scaling from the two stats is approximately the same.
  • Other team members should use their Elemental Burst before Raiden uses hers.
  • C1 is good (5-12% DMG increase), C2 is insane (43% DMG increase).
  • ER required is about 200-220% if solo Electro character in the team, with a second Electro character it's 180-200%.
  • EM is needed for Dendro reactions only, i.e. if used as Hyperbloom trigger.
  • Artifacts
    • 4x Emblem of Severed Fate.
    • Stats
      • Sands = ATK% or ER, the latter only if the signature weapon is equipped
      • Goblet = Electro DMG Bonus or ATK% (the latter only if desperate)
      • Circlet = CR or CD
    • Substats
      • ER (until requirements)
      • CR / CD
      • ATK% >= ER
      • Flat ATK
  • Weapon
    • Many 5* weapons
    • Wavebreaker's Fin (R5) (available only from weapon banners)
    • Deathmatch R5
    • Lithic Spear, only at R5 and with many Liyue team mates (available only from weapon banners)
    • The Catch
    • Ballad of the Fjords (because of the CR bonus, although EM is not useful in a main DPS build)
    • Deathmatch R1 (not clear whether this is better or worse than Ballad of the Fjords)
  • Talents
    • Elemental Burst
    • Elemental Skill
    • Normal Attack

How to play

  • Raiden's skill => others' bursts => Raiden's burst

Wanderer

References:

Ascension Stat = CR

Build: Main DPS

  • Level 90 is not needed.
  • ER is not a priority for Wanderer because at C0 he does not need to burst every rotation. With Faruzan C6 bursting every rotation only requires 115-135% ER.
    • At C6 in a Double Anemo team, Faruzuan requires 175%-200% ER if she catches all Anemo particles, so more ER is required in my case because I am unskilled.
    • Each Favonius proc reduces ER% requirement by 25% (again assuming that particles are not caught by Faruzan).
    • Overall I aim for about 200% ER.
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Desert Pavilion Chronicle (best in slot)
    • 2nd best: 4x Shimenawa's Reminiscence. But this requires more ER, or bursting only every 3rd rotation.
    • 3rd best: 4x Marechaussee Hunter - especially good if Furina is on the team
    • Stats
      • Sands = ATK%
      • Goblet = Anemo DMG Bonus
      • Circlet = CR / CD

How to play

  • Other team mates should set up their buffs before Wanderer takes the field because he needs uninterrupted field time.

Yae Miko

References:

Ascension Stat = CRIT Rate

Build: Off-field DPS using skill + burst (when available)

  • The other 2 builds described on KQM (on-field driver, skill only) do not suffer a lot from going with the artifact sets and weapons below, the difference is more in the area of optimising than anything else.
  • ER requirements
    • Burst is extremely powerful, but requires 90 energy.
    • With Raiden: 140-150%
    • Off-field with Fischl: 130%
    • ER - 10% per Favonius proc.
  • Artifacts
    • Non-aggravate
      • Best 1: 4x Emblem of Severed Fate - allows burst to be used more frequently due to increased ER, also boosts burst DMG
      • Best 2: 4x Golden Troupe - massively increases skill DMG, on-par with Emblem
      • 3rd: 2x Thundering Fury + some other 2 piece set (best: ATK% buff, 2nd: Golden Troupe, 3rd: Noblesse Oblige, 4th: Emblem)
    • Aggravate
      • Best: 4x Golden Troupe
      • 2nd: 4x Gilded Dreams
      • 3rd: 2x Thundering Fury + some other 2 piece set (best: Emblem if needed for ER; 2nd: EM, 3rd: Golden Troupe, 4th: ATK% if high base ATK weapon)
    • Conclusion: Use Golden Troupe to cover both team types.
    • Stats
      • Sands = ATK%, EM (only for Aggravate, and even then ATK can be better) or ER (if needed)
      • Goblet = Electro DMG Bonus
      • Circlet = CR/CD
    • Substats
      • ER (until requirements)
      • CR/CD

      • EM (only for Aggravate)
  • Weapon
    • Non-aggravate
      • Solar Pearl
      • The Widsith
      • Various 5* weapons that are better, in-between, and worse than the 2 above
    • Aggravate
      • The Widsith
      • Solar Pearl (only minimally worse)
      • Various 5* weapons that are better, in-between, and worse than the 2 above
    • Conclusion: Use Solar Pearl because it is good for both team types and a bit more consistent than The Widsith.
  • Talents
    • Elemental Skill
    • Elemental Burst
    • Normal Attack

How to play

  • Yae Miko has relatively low HP, so keeping her off-field keeps her safe.
  • Place totems close to each other, but not in a straight line, to let them reach level 3.
  • Burst consumes totems, then strikes as many times as there were totems. Each strike is AoE.
  • Don't use burst immediately after skill because it lessens the field time of totems.

Teams:

  • Always: A second Electro team mate
    • Raiden is the ideal team mate: They both buff each other's bursts, and Raidens provides a lot of energy for Yae's burst.
    • Fischl is very good in single-target scenarios.
  • Non-aggravate
    • Kazuha: Provides buff to Raiden + Yae Miko
    • Bennett: The typical buffer/healer.
  • Aggravate
    • A Dendro character
      • Nahida
      • Various other Dendro characters, but I have none built.
    • Flex Slot: Zhongli (shield), Jean or Sayu (healer), Kazuha (aggro)
  • Furina
    • Furina adds powerful buff, but requires a healer
  • Double Pyro
    • Xiangling + Chevreuse
    • Or Bennett
  • Many, many more

Yelan

References:

Ascension Stat = CRIT Rate

Build: Sub-DPS

  • Level 90 increases HP much more than it increases ATK in other characters. Because Yelan’s skill and burst scale with HP, it is therefore worth leveling her to 90 more than it is leveling characters whose skill/burst scale with ATK.
  • Needs high Energy Recharge, considerably lowering requirements when combined with Xingqiu (or some other Hydro character) and/or a Favonius weapon.

Zhongli

References:

Ascension Stat: Geo DMG Bonus

Build: Shieldbot

  • One of the simplest and cheapest characters to build: Maximize HP and level up his Elemental Skill.
  • Leveling HP-scaling characters to 90 is usually good. In the case of Zhongli, however, his shield at level 80 is already incredibly strong, so leveling to 90 is moer of a luxury.

Charlotte

References:

Ascension Stat = ATK%

Build: Healer / Off-field DPS

  • Level 90 is not necessary because Charlotte's skill and burst scale off ATK and not off HP, and the elemental reaction she triggers do not scale off character level.
  • Responsibilities & consequences
    • Charlotte's Elemental Burst provides extremely strong team-wide healing in an AoE. This is her main responsibility. The healing scales off Charlotte's ATK.
    • Her Elemental Burst and Elemental Skill both provide some off-field Cryo application, but this is a minor benefit.
    • In teams with other Cryo characters she acts as a modest Cryo battery, but her particle generation is quite poor compared to other Cryo options
  • Energy Recharge
    • Because her main task is healing, and healing is provided by her burst, satisfying the high energy cost of 80 of her burst becomes an important aspect of building Charlotte.
    • An ER Sands artifact is mandatory! Also ER sub-stats for the other artifact pieces are extremely valuable and much more important than any other sub-stat.
    • The weapon must also contribute in some form to recharging energy: Either an ER weapon is required, or a weapon that generates energy as part of her passive.
    • C4 provides a bit of additional ER - if C4 is available this may influence the artifact choices.
    • The grey area is in the artifact set being used. If the ER contributions from all the other sources are not sufficient, then Emblem of Severed Fate can be considered.
  • Artifacts
    • Best if ER needs require it: 2x Emblem of Severed Fate (+20% ER) + 2x Gladiator's Finale (+18% ATK for more healing).
    • If team can use ATK buffs: 4x Tenacity of the Millelith (+20% ATK for all team members when Charlotte’s Skill hits an opponent).
    • Alternative if no Tenacity pieces are available: 4x Noblesse Oblige (+20% ATK for all team members when Charlotte uses her Burst). The problem with this is that even more team support is now locked behind the Elemental Burst - Charlotte now really wants to use her burst whenever it is off cooldown, whereas if the burst provides only healing it may be ok to burst only when the healing is actually needed.
    • Stats
      • Sands = Energy Recharge
      • Goblet = ATK% (improves the healing)
      • Circlet = Healing Bonus or CRIT Rate (the latter only if Favonius Codex is used, and only if really needed) or ATK% (only if none of the other two are available)
    • Substats
      • ER (until requirements)
      • ATK% (to boost healing)
      • CR
      • CD
  • Weapon
    • Prototype Amber (4*, craftable). The HP% stat is mostly wasted because Charlotte's healing scales off ATK, but the weapon passive that generates energy is very good - especially at R5.
    • Favonius Codex (4*, wishing). The ER stat is an alternative to Prototype Amber to generate more ER. The weapon passive also contributes the whole team. The weapon passive requires a crit hit to proc, so naturally a CRIT Rate Circlet seems favourable. However, Charlotte's talents apparently cause a high number of hits which increases the chances for a crit sufficiently so that the Favonius Codex passive procs fairly consistently with a relatively low CR value. In the Jello Impact build video a 30% CR value is shown together with Favonius Codex, but Jello remarks that this sometimes seemed to be not enough.
  • Talents
    • Elemental Burst
    • Elemental Skill (only low priority, to gain a bit of additional damage)
    • Normal Attack (should not be leveled at all)

How to play

  • There's not much technique involved in playing Charlotte:
    • Use her Elemental Burst as often as needed to generate healing, energy and provide a bit of supplemental damage.
    • Use her Elemental Skill as often as possible to generate energy and provide a bit of supplemental damage.
    • Charlotte does not need to be on field for the effects of either burst or skill.
  • Teams / roles
    • Charlotte is great in Furina teams because her healing extremely boosts Furina's damage buff (Furina's buff is increased even when Charlotte overheals).
    • Cryo battery: According to Jello Impact, Charlotte is not the best Cryo battery among the 4* candidates (Diona, Layla, Rosaria, Kaeya), but she is the most comfortable because she provides unsurpassed healing.
    • Sub-DPS: Again, according to Jello Impact other 4* Cryo battery characters provide more damage.
    • Cryo application: Another thing where Charlotte is not the best, but this can be even a pro if she's used in other teams that do not primarily want to trigger Cryo reactions.
    • I chose Charlotte to build over the others because of flexibility - healing is useful in many teams, whereas Cryo battery and Cryo application restrict a character to a Cryo teams (which on my account means: an Ayaka team).

Chevreuse

References:

Ascension Stat = HP%

Build: Support in Overloaded team

  • Level 90 is optional. It can be helpful to reach the 40k HP cap on her A4 buff, and also to increase her healing.
  • ER is not a priority for Chevreuse because her main buffing does not come from her burst. Only occasional bursts are fine.
  • It is desirable to get Chevreuse to 40k HP (but not more) because that is the cap of the ATK% buff from her A4 buff.
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Noblesse Oblige, to increase the team-wide ATK% buff by another 20% after bursting. Since this requires buiding ER I went for the 2nd best set.
    • 2nd best: 4x Maiden Beloved
    • Stats
      • Sands = HP% (or ER, if 40k HP is somehow reached without a HP% Sands)
      • Goblet = HP%
      • Circlet = HP% (or Healing Bonus, if 40k HP is somehow reached without a HP% Circlet)
    • Substats
      • HP% / Flat HP until 40k HP
      • CR / CD
  • Weapon
    • Black Tassel (to reach 40k HP)
    • Favonius Lance (to provide more energy to the team; I chose this over Black Tassel because with level 90 + 3x HP% artifacts it may be possible to reach 40k HP; also, I have enough Favonius Lances to even create an R5 weapon)
  • Talents
    • Elemental Skill > Elemental Burst: They do not need to be leveled to get Chevreuse's buffs (these come from her A1 and A4 passive talents). Leveling merely increases the healing (skill) and damage (burst). Healing has more impact and does not require energy, so the Elemental Skill is clearly the one that has priority.
    • Normal Attack: No need to level at all.

How to play

  • Conditions for A1 passive buff: The team requires at least 1 Pyro and 1 Electro character, and there must be ONLY Pyro and Electro characters.
  • Chevreuse does not need to be the one who triggers Overloaded, nor does she need to be on the field.

Some notes

  • No synergy with elemental mastery (video 1) - damage significantly increases with elemental mastery (video 2)

  • Ca. 50% crit rate to proc the passive while she is on field

Faruzan

References:

Ascension Stat = ATK%

Build: Support for buffing Anemo DMG and shredding Anemo RES

  • Level 90 is not needed. Although level 90 increases her A4 Passive's Base DMG Bonus and damage of potential Swirls, the gain is not worth the cost.
  • ER is a priority for Faruzuan because her use centers around her burst.
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Tenacity of the Millelith
    • 2nd best: 4x Golden Troupe. Only slightly worse than TotM. Also this needs to be used if someone else in the team already uses TotM.
    • 3rd best: 2x Emblem of the Severed Fate (for +20% ER) + 2x something else.
    • Stats
      • Sands = ER
      • Goblet = Anemo DMG Bonus
      • Circlet = CR (because of Favonius weapon)
    • Substats
      • ER
      • CR
      • CD / ATK%
  • Weapon
    • Favonius Warbow (clearly best-in-slot)
    • Some 5* weapons.
  • Talents
    • Elemental Burst and Elemental Skill: Should be leveled equally at C6, before that burst has priority. Not strictly necessary to level them because Faruzan's buffs and debuffs mostly do not increase with talent levels. The exception is the Anemo DMG% buff which scales with the burst level, so Keging's recommends to level the burst to 8.
    • Normal Attack: No need to level at all.

      • Doesn’t care much about set bonuses, just wants raw stats!

    • Not on keqingmains: Viridescent Hunt (CRIT Rate, Battle Pass)
    • Not on keqingmains: Slingshot (3★, CRIT Rate, Wanderlust + other banners)
  • Talents
    • Elemental Skill
    • Elemental Burst - but this is not so important, because the burst talent level only matters when the burst is triggered, but subsequently when Oz is on the field the skill talent level is what matters.
    • Normal Attack
  • Elemental Reactions
    • All 3 elemental reactions triggered by Fischl (Overloaded, Electro-Charged, Superconduct) are transformation reactions => The damage is increased by Character Level and Elemental Mastery.
    • However, apparently the problem is that it can’t be guaranteed who triggers the reaction, so stacking EM on Fischl is not important. Much more important is ATK% and Electro DMG%.

Gaming

Ascension Stat = ATK%

Build: On-field (plunging) DPS

  • Level 90 is not necessary.
  • ER requirements
    • Solo Pyro at C6 (which I have): 140-155%.
    • If a team mate has a Favonius weapon the ER requirements are reduced by 15-25%.
  • Crit Rate
    • C6 adds 20% CR to the plunging attack.
    • 4 piece Marechaussee Hunter adds 36% CR in general.
    • Base CR is 5%.
    • Artifact CR sub-stats and weapon CR stats should therefore not surpass 39%.
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Marechaussee Hunter

    • 3rd best: 4x Gilded Dreams (Vaporize, Melt)

    • Tidal Shadow R5
    • Ultimate Overlord’s Mega Magic Sword

    • Elemental Skill: This has top priority.
    • Elemental Burst. This has second priority. Using the Elemental Burst causes the skill cooldown to reset, but this happens already at the lowest talent level. Increasing the burst level adds a bit of damage, but this is not very significant.
    • Normal Attack. Since Gaming is an on-field DPS his normal attack is sometimes also useful.

    • Cryo: Usually 2 Cryo characters are needed to maintain enough Cryo application. The only exception is C6 Kaeya.
    • Bennet or some other healer
  • Mono Pyro
    • Depends on Viridescent Venerer Pyro RES shred, therefore an Anemo VV user is required.
    • Pyro: Bennett and some other (Xiangling is best)
  • Chevreuse Overload

How to play

  • The effect of Gaming's Elemental Burst ends when he leaves the field, so the rest of the team must perform their skills and bursts beforehand.
  • The goal is to apply buffs and enable elemental reactions when Gaming starts to burst. Since he is a Pyro character one of his most potent elemental reactions is (reverse) Vaporize.
  • The team should have a healer because Gaming wants to stay above 50% HP, because this is a precondition for the skill cooldown reset from his burst. Being above 50% HP is also beneficial for his A1 and A4 passives.

Kuki Shinobu

Ascension Stat = HP%

Build: Off-field driver for Hyperbloom

  • Level 90 is mandatory because Hyperbloom is a transformative reaction that scales with character level.
  • ER is not a priority for Kuki because her main use comes from her skill.
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Flower of Paradise Lost
    • 2nd best: 4x Gilded Dreams. keqingmains.com recommends this because FoPL is inefficient to farm.
    • Cheap: 2x Gilded Dreams, 2x FoPL
    • TODO: I wonder whether Golden Troupe would not be an improvement over Gilded Dreams, similar to how it was for Fischl.
    • Stats
      • Sands = Elemental Mastery
      • Goblet = Elemental Mastery
      • Circlet = Elemental Mastery
    • Substats
      • EM
      • ER
      • HP%
  • Weapon
    • Various 5* weapons
    • Xiphos' Moonlight (4* from weapon banner). Has same EM stats as Iron Sting, but is better because of the passive that improves ER of the whole team.
    • Iron Sting
  • Talents
    • Elemental Skill: This has top priority.
    • Elemental Burst. This is only secondary to her skill, to get in a bit of additional damage at convenient moments.
    • Normal Attack (should not be leveled at all)

Build: Aggravate

  • Level 90 is mandatory because Aggravate is a transformative reaction that scales with character level.
  • I did not go into this build more deeply because Aggravate, unlike Hyperbloom, is not so simple to build. It's not just "EM tops all" because for Aggravate Kuki relies on her Elemental Burst, i.e. ER comes into play which makes everything much more complicated.

How to play

  • Elemental Skill activation costs 30% of Kuki's current HP, then provides constant healing over time to the active character (based on Kuki's max HP). Repeated activations will not kill Kuki as the percentage is taken from the current HP and at 20% HP there is a cap where she will no longer lose HP. Because Kuki is meant to be off-field she will not benefit herself from her healing, unless a bit of time is spent after activating the skill to let her get one tick of healing.
  • At C0 and C1, Kuki's Elemental Skill has a duration of 12 seconds and a cooldown of 15 seconds, so she has great uptime. At C2 and higher the skill duration is increased to 15 seconds, i.e. 100% uptime. Her healing and damage dealing occurs every 1.5 seconds tick, so she has 8/10 triggers during her skill's uptime.
  • Apparently Kuki also has a 45% chance to generate an energy particle on each of the 8 ticks, so overall an average of 3-4/4-5 particles per skill usage.
  • Kuki's play style for Hyperbloom is very simple
    1. Activate her skill
    2. Weave in one normal attack if she is at C4 to trigger the C4 passive for additional Electro AoE damage (9.7% of Kuki's max HP). If she's not at C4 don't weave in a normal attack, except if you want to let Kuki heal a bit.
    3. Activate her burst.

A-Tier Support, strongest Shield in the game after Zhongli

Ascension Stat = HP%

Build: Shield Support

  • Level 90 increases HP much more than it increases ATK in other characters. Because Layla’s skill and burst scale with HP, it is therefore worth leveling her to 90 more than it is leveling characters whose skill/burst scale with ATK.
  • Burst is used for improving Cryo application, particle generation (if other team mates need Cryo energy), and maximizing Shield uptime for team mates (in co-op).
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Tenacity of the Millelith
    • 2nd: 2x Tenacity + 2x Vourukasha’s Glow
    • 3rd: 2x Tenacity + 2x Emblem of Severed Fate
    • 4th: 4x Noblesse Oblige

Build for on-field DPS with Dendro (aggravate)

  • Level to 90
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Thundering Fury
    • 2nd: 4x Gilded Dreams (?)

    • Mappa Mare (forging)

    • Sacrificial Fragments
    • Hakushin Ring (forging; much better for off-field DPS)
  • Talents
    • Elemental Skill
    • Elemental Burst (almost the same prio as the skill, but skill is easier to use)
    • Normal Attack (more prio if she is main DPS)

Build for killing Oceanid on lower AR levels

  • Artifacts
    • Possibly best: Gilded Dreams. 2-piece = 80 EM. 4-piece: 100 EM for 2 other non-Electro chars.
    • 2nd: Thundering Fury. 2-piece = 15% Electro DMG, 4-piece = 40% DMG of elemental reaction + CD reduction of Elemental Skill
  • Weapon
  • Talents
    • Normal Attack + Elemental Skill, because Burst is too slow

Build: Dendro Healer in Aggravate team with Lisa

  • Level 90 directly affects HP, and therefore healing, and reaction damage (although usually Lisa will trigger the reaction).
  • Talent levels only affect healing, but not damage.
  • Artifacts
    • Best: 4x Tenacity of the Millelith => boosts the ATK% of Lisa, which increases reaction damage
    • 2nd: Ocean-Hued Clam can be an interim option
    • Deepwood Memory 4-piece set does not bring a lot of value, but 2-piece set is ok’ish

    • There is also a small recharge with each basic attack.
    • Finally, some skills and bonuses provide enhanced energy recharge % or a flat energy bonus upon triggers.
  • Leveling
    • A character has a level: 1-90. To get past certain thresholds the character must be ascended.
