On Fairy-stories
- The lecture was given 8 March 1939. [1] p. 195 states explicitly that previously given dates 1938 and 1940 are incorrect. For instance, the "Introductory note" in [2], written by Tolkien himself, states 1938 as the date the lecture was given. Since [2] is an older publication, it probably makes sense to believe that [1] is correct.
The Hobbit
- The history of first publication is written down in [1] p. 184ff
- [1] p. 185 states that 8 black & white maps were drawn by Tolkien himself
LotR
- [1] p. 221 states that Christopher Tolkien drew the Shire map, and the general map
- [1] p. 224f states that Christopher Tolkien drew the Gondor map
- [1] p. 225 states that no index was included in the first publication of volume 3; p. 223 mentions that an index was promised in the preface of the 1st volume
