The "Game Files" folder

ScummVM stores save games inside the folder

~/Documents/ScummVM Savegames

It makes sense to create another folder that will contain game files copied from the various CD-ROMs so that the games can be played whenever the mood is on you :-)

~/Documents/ScummVM Game Files

How to install/use specific games

Day of the Tentacle

  • Create a new folder "Day of the Tentacle" in your game files folder
  • Copy the contents of the "DOTT" folder on the CD-ROM into this folder
  • Launch ScummVM.app
  • Select "Add game..."
  • Navigate to and select the game files folder created above
  • Accept all default values
  • Play the game

The Secret of Monkey Island

I have 3 sources:

  • Two floppy disk images disk0051.img and disk0052 (a folder) created from 3.5" disks
  • A single zip archive OldWinData/D/Archiv/Games/Monkey Island.zip; this zip archive is partially corrupted, but it contains the useful file "Codes Monkey Island.txt" (contains code wheel data)
  • The CD-ROM version of the game that contains "improved" music, a bit of ambient sound, and revamped graphics (and is missing the infamous "Stump Joke"). Personally, I find this version of the game disgusting!!! 1) The music is not better, it is a garish "Oberkrainer" modernization that sounds offending to my ears (compare Scumm Bar and initial LeChuck cut scene music). 2) Some of the ambient sounds are OK (sea surf) but others are simply horrible (Piranha poodles). 3) The new VGA graphics seems to have less colors than the old EGA graphics, which makes it look worse in my eyes.

Prepare game files for playing:

  • Create a new folder "The Secrets of Monkey Island" in your game files folder
    • Floppy disk version: Copy the contents of the two floppy disk images and the file "Codes Monkey Island.txt" into this folder
    • CD-ROM version: Copy the contents of the file The Secret Of Monkey Island (VGA CD-Version).rar into this folder
  • Launch ScummVM.app
  • Select "Add game..."
  • Navigate to and select the game files folder created above
  • Accept all default values
  • Play the game (read the .txt file to answer the copy protection questions)

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge

Prepare game files for playing:

  • Create a folder and copy the contents of the 5 floppy disk images disk0084.img - disk0088.img into this folder
  • Drop the folder onto Boxer's "Drop games here to install them.app"
  • This creates a .boxer bundle and automatically launches a DOSBox session with the installer running
  • Install to drive C:
  • When installation is finished, quit the DOSBox session
  • Open the .boxer bundle in the Finder and copy the single folder in it to your ScummVM game files folder; the .boxer bundle can now be deleted
  • Copy the file "Codes Monkey Island 2.txt" with code wheel data into the game files folder
  • Launch ScummVM.app
  • Select "Add game..."
  • Navigate to and select the game files folder copied above
  • Accept all default values
  • Play the game

Note: Copy protection seems to be broken, any answer will work for the code wheel question at the beginning of the game.

Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

I have 2 sources:

  • With spoken text: The CD-ROM version of the game. The file Indiana Jones 2- and the Fate of Atlantis (with speech).rar also contains a couple of .jpg files from the game package, a complete walkthrough and the "Original Sound Track" in .mp3 format.
  • Without spoken text (German): Five floppy disk images disk0039.img - disk0043.img created from 3.5" disks

Prepare game files for playing:

  • Prepare a folder in the ScummVM game files folder
    • CD-ROM version: Copy the "Game" folder from the .rar archive into the ScummVM game files folder; rename "Game" to something useful (e.g. "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis")
    • Floppy disk version: Same procedure as for the "Monkey Island 2" game above
  • Launch ScummVM.app
  • Select "Add game..."
  • Navigate to and select the game files folder copied above
  • Accept all default values
  • Play the game

Full Throttle

Prepare game files for playing:

  • Prepare a folder in the ScummVM game files folder
  • Copy the folder "RESOURCE" from the CD-ROM into the ScummVM game files folder; rename RESOURCE to something useful (e.g. "Full Throttle")
  • Launch ScummVM.app
  • Select "Add game..."
  • Navigate to and select the game files folder copied above
  • Accept all default values
  • Play the game
